Delhi Health Minister Sets 10-Day Deadline for Hospitals to Resolve Medicine Shortages

The minister has instructed hospitals to conduct daily inventory monitoring

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh issued a stern warning on Saturday to all government hospital administrators, demanding resolution of medicine shortages within 10 days, following persistent concerns about supply inadequacies and complaints from patients.

During a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat with medical directors and superintendents, Singh emphasized that hospital leadership bears full responsibility for ensuring every patient receives appropriate treatment and all necessary medications.

"Medical Directors and Medical Superintendents must guarantee that all patients visiting facilities receive proper care along with essential medicines," he stated firmly.

"It is the duty of medical directors and superintendents to submit complete requests for necessary medications and medical equipment to the Central Procurement Agency within required timeframes to maintain uninterrupted supply," Singh further noted.

According to officials, hospital administrators have been given a strict ten-day timeline to submit their medicine and equipment requirements for the remainder of the financial year. Singh warned that non-compliance would trigger severe consequences, underscoring ongoing accountability concerns.

The minister cautioned that any healthcare facility failing to maintain adequate stocks of medicines or consumables would face accountability measures, with strict actions taken against negligence.

He highlighted that an effective medicine supply system, managed by the CPA, has already been established to ensure continuous patient care without interruptions.

Singh additionally directed hospitals to perform daily inventory checks and utilize emergency local purchasing options when necessary.

"Doctors and hospital management must interact with every patient cordially and deliver proper care in all respects," he concluded.
