Police registered a murder case against a woman following her sister's complaint about the tragic incident.

In a disturbing incident from Rajasthan's Churu district, a 40-year-old woman allegedly strangled her newborn son just hours after giving birth at a local government hospital, police reported on Saturday. The accused, identified as Guddi Devi, had delivered her fifth child on Thursday night.

"The woman killed the infant by strangulation while other family members were asleep in the hospital ward," said Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Sukhram Chotiya.

Investigators discovered that Guddi Devi was experiencing significant financial hardship and mental distress. Her husband, Tarachand, is paralyzed and confined to bed.

"According to her relatives, she expressed that she couldn't handle the responsibility of raising another child," police officials stated.

The crime was discovered early Friday when Guddi's elder sister, Maina Devi, observed the newborn was unresponsive.

"Upon noticing deep marks on the infant's neck, she immediately informed medical staff, who pronounced the baby dead," the SHO explained.

A post-mortem examination confirmed strangulation as the cause of death. Police have filed a murder case against the woman based on her sister's complaint.

"The accused remains in hospital receiving post-delivery treatment. She will be taken into custody once doctors declare her medically fit," Chotiya added.
