Elderly Karnataka Woman Murdered for Gold: Body Hidden for Days Before Lake Disposal

Police in Karnataka reported that an elderly woman was murdered, her body concealed inside a residence for two days, and subsequently abandoned near a lake.

The crime occurred in Kooguru village located in Anekal taluk in proximity to Bengaluru.

Sarjapur Police uncovered the crime following a thorough investigation.

The victim was identified as 68-year-old Bhadramma, a Kooguru resident who disappeared on October 30.

Despite exhaustive search efforts by her family members and fellow villagers, she remained untraceable.

A missing person report was filed at Sarjapur Police Station on October 31, which prompted authorities to launch an extensive search operation in surrounding areas.

Several days later, on November 6, investigators received a critical tip indicating Bhadramma was last observed visiting the residence of a woman named Deepa, who resided in the same village.

Based on this information, police detained Deepa for interrogation.

During questioning, she admitted to the murder, revealing a disturbing sequence of events.

According to police, Deepa had allegedly enticed the elderly woman to her house by offering Kajjaya, a traditional sweet delicacy, before strangling her to steal her gold chain.

After committing the crime, Deepa placed the body in a large bag and kept it inside her home for two days, according to police statements.

As decomposition progressed and odors intensified, authorities reported that she transferred the remains into another container.

She subsequently contacted her son, claiming they needed to dispose of garbage, according to police.

Together, they allegedly transported the body to Doddathimmasandra Lake and disposed of it among bushes near the lakebed, police reported.

According to police accounts, Deepa returned home and resumed her normal daily activities as if nothing unusual had occurred. When questioned by Bhadramma's concerned family, she maintained her innocence, asserting that the elderly woman had already returned home.

The Sarjapur Police methodically assembled the missing components of the case.

They recovered the body, arranged for post-mortem examination, and apprehended Deepa.

Initial investigations indicate that gold theft was the primary motive behind the murder.

Police have registered a murder case under applicable IPC sections at Sarjapur Police Station.

Further investigation continues to determine the complete extent of involvement of Deepa's family members and to locate any missing jewelry or evidence connected to the crime.
