Jewelry Store Owner Fights Back: Woman's Chilli Powder Robbery Attempt in Ahmedabad Backfires with 20 Slaps

The attempted robbery at an Ahmedabad jewelry shop was captured on CCTV footage on November 3 at approximately 12:30 pm.

A woman entered a jewelry store in Gujarat's Ahmedabad with robbery intentions but received approximately 20 slaps in just 25 seconds from the shopkeeper after her plan failed.

The CCTV footage of the incident, which occurred on November 3 around 12:30 pm, has since gone viral. The woman, who concealed her face with a dupatta, entered the gold and silver establishment near Ranip vegetable market pretending to be a customer. Shortly after entering, she suddenly threw chilli powder toward the shopkeeper's eyes in an attempt to rob the store.

Fortunately for the shopkeeper, the chilli powder missed its target. Upon realizing her intentions, the shopkeeper immediately reacted by slapping her repeatedly—delivering about 20 slaps in just 25 seconds—before climbing over the counter and physically removing her from the premises while continuing to slap her.

According to police officials, the shopkeeper has refused to file a formal complaint about the incident. Nevertheless, authorities have initiated an investigation to identify the woman based on available CCTV evidence.

Ranip Police Station PI Ketan Vyas confirmed that despite the shopkeeper declining to file a complaint, police have begun investigating to locate the woman using the surveillance footage.

The Ahmedabad Police stated they have launched an investigation into the incident and verified that they met with the potential complainant twice to encourage filing a formal report.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, the Ahmedabad Police said: "In this case, the complainant was personally met twice to obtain a statement in this regard and was asked to file the complaint, but the complainant businessman is not inclined to lodge any complaint in this matter. Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to search for the accused based on the CCTV footage."
