Patna: Legal proceedings have been initiated against four individuals in Bihar for allegedly capturing photographs of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the electoral process and subsequently sharing these images on various social media platforms, according to officials' statements on Friday.
The incidents occurred across three districts - Ara, Gopalganj, and Saran - all of which participated in the first phase of voting that took place on Thursday. The authorities confirmed that two individuals faced charges in Gopalganj, while one person each was booked in Ara and Saran respectively.
In their official communications, the police departments of the concerned districts emphasized that photographing EVMs during voting and distributing such images on social media constitutes a violation of both the Model Code of Conduct and other legal provisions.
Law enforcement officials have also launched an investigation into how these individuals managed to bring their mobile devices into polling booths, which raises significant security concerns about the electoral process.
