MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that India has acknowledged President Trump's recent comments regarding Pakistan.
New Delhi:
India officially responded on Friday to US President Donald Trump's statements about Pakistan conducting nuclear weapons tests. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that Pakistan's "clandestine" nuclear program has been characterized by decades of illicit activities including smuggling operations, violations of international export controls, and covert partnerships.
Trump recently mentioned Pakistan among countries testing nuclear weapons while explaining his administration's decision to resume America's own nuclear testing program after more than 30 years of dormancy.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India has consistently alerted the international community about Pakistan's nuclear proliferation and the activities of AQ Khan, who was widely regarded as the architect of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program until his death in 2021.
"Clandestine and illegal nuclear activities are in keeping with Pakistan's history, that is centred around decades of smuggling, export control violations, secret partnerships, AQ Khan network and further proliferation," Jaiswal remarked during the official statement.
"India has always drawn the attention of the international community to these aspects of Pakistan's record. In this backdrop, we have taken note of President Trump's comment about Pakistan's nuclear testing," he added.
AQ Khan was notorious for establishing an international network that supplied nuclear and missile technologies to various nations. His operations reportedly formed part of a global black market that provided nuclear technology to countries including North Korea and Iran.
In his recent statements, Trump strongly defended his decision to restart nuclear weapons testing, insisting it was essential for verifying the reliability of America's nuclear arsenal. These comments were made shortly before Trump's scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
