The post-mortem examination revealed cardiac arrest as the cause of the man's death, according to police officials.
Shahjahanpur (UP): Two police personnel, including a sub-inspector, have been charged in relation to the death of a Dalit man who allegedly fell during a police raid, officials announced on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi stated that the family of Satyabhan (55) from Maujampur village in Tilhar area has claimed he died after falling from his house roof, allegedly pushed by police during a Tuesday night raid.
According to the complaint filed by the deceased's wife, Sub-Inspector Rahul Sisodia and a constable came to arrest her son, who faces an attempt to murder charge.
The complaint alleges that police forcibly entered by breaking the door, verbally abused women present, assaulted her husband on the roof, and pushed him off. He succumbed during treatment around 3 am.
SP Dwivedi refuted these allegations, stating that while the police team visited the house, they did not enter after being informed that the accused son was in Delhi.
"The allegation that police pushed Satyabhan is false. Our team never entered the premises. However, all claims mentioned in the complaint are under investigation. Strict measures will be taken against anyone found guilty," Dwivedi stated.
He emphasized that the post-mortem report identified cardiac arrest as Satyabhan's cause of death, and the family proceeded with cremation on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a video recorded before the man's death has circulated widely. In this footage, an injured Satyabhan claims police officers assaulted him and pushed him from the roof.
Police have categorically denied these accusations.
A case has been registered against Sub-Inspector Sisodia and another constable under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 352 (assault) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
