The Central Bureau of Investigation has launched an official investigation against former Punjab Director General of Police Mohammad Mustafa and his wife Razia Sultana following the suspicious death of their son Aquil Akhtar.
According to officials, the CBI registered a formal FIR on Friday concerning the death of 35-year-old Aquil Akhtar, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Panchkula, Haryana on October 16.
The FIR indicates there was significant tension between the deceased and his family members prior to his death.
Previously, Akhtar had posted a video on social media on August 27 claiming he had discovered "illicit relations" between his wife and his father. In the recording, he also alleged that his entire family, including his mother and sister, were plotting either to kill him or falsely implicate him in a case.
The CBI spokesperson confirmed in a late night statement: "The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered an FIR in the Aqil Akhter murder case on November 6. The FIR was registered regarding allegations that Aqil Akhter, son of Mohammad Mustafa, former Punjab DGP, and Razia Sultana, former PWD minister of Punjab, currently residing at Sector 4 near the Mansa Devi Mandir in Panchkula, died under suspicious circumstances on October 16."
The investigation agency has filed the case against Mustafa, Sultana, along with Akhter's wife and sister under BNS sections related to murder and criminal conspiracy.
This case was initially registered with the Panchkula police before being transferred to the CBI by the Haryana government for further investigation.
