Tirunelveli represents the political stronghold of Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran, who currently serves as the constituency's MLA.
Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has delivered a firm ultimatum to DMK officials in Tirunelveli and surrounding constituencies, demanding they secure victory in upcoming elections or face removal from their party positions.
Tirunelveli serves as the political base for Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran, the current MLA representing the constituency.
The DMK leader conveyed this message during a private 'Udanpirappe Vaa' (one-on-one meeting) with district-level officials in Sankarankoil and Tirunelveli. DMK's South Zone coordinator and MP Kanimozhi also attended, emphasizing the party's electoral strategy for southern districts.
Party insiders revealed that Stalin explicitly informed office-bearers, including district secretaries, that failing to win Tirunelveli would result in dismissal from their positions. He encouraged them to proactively engage with voters, stating, "Don't wait to be pushed to work - step up and deliver results."
Sources indicated he directed district secretaries of Tenkasi and Tirunelveli to avoid intimidation tactics, instead recommending encouragement and positive reinforcement to achieve their goals.
DMK leadership interprets the focus on Tirunelveli as a strategic message: the party is determined to claim victory in this significant constituency, particularly if Nainar Nagendran contests there again. Defeating him in his home territory would represent both a political statement and strategic achievement.
The Chief Minister also raised concerns about potential irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, cautioning that numerous voters might be excluded from electoral rolls. Stalin urged DMK members to prioritize gathering accurate voter information and ensuring all eligible voters remain registered.
