New Delhi:

Two friends engaged in a violent altercation in Delhi's Rohini area following a heated dispute over one's failure to "arrange a second wife" for the other despite receiving Rs 60,000 for the service, police officials reported on Thursday.

According to police statements, the incident occurred on the night of October 7 near Rithala bus stand, where the victim, Jagdish, confronted his friend Deepak (35) regarding the woman Deepak had promised to introduce him to.

The confrontation escalated rapidly, with Deepak allegedly producing a knife and stabbing Jagdish in the chest, according to a senior police officer.

In an act of self-defense, Jagdish extracted the knife from his chest and attacked Deepak. Upon sustaining injuries, Deepak fled the scene.

Shortly after, authorities were alerted through a PCR call. Police arrived at the location and transported Jagdish to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital.

Jagdish informed investigators that he had been experiencing marital difficulties for several years. He revealed that he had shared his troubled marriage situation with Deepak and expressed his desire to remarry, police reported.

According to his testimony, Jagdish had taken his wife to her parents' home in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli on October 6 and returned to Delhi the following day. He spent that entire day with Deepak, who had assured him that he would find a suitable woman for marriage.

"Jagdish informed police that he had previously paid Deepak Rs 30,000 for arranging his remarriage and transferred an additional Rs 30,000 through an online payment application on the evening of October 7," the officer stated.

Around 11 pm that night, Deepak summoned Jagdish to the bus stand in Rithala. When Jagdish inquired about the promised woman, Deepak became aggressive, pulled out a knife, stabbed him, and threatened, "I will finish you, forget about the woman," according to Jagdish's statement to police.

Jagdish retaliated in self-defense, inflicting multiple injuries on Deepak, he claimed.

On October 8, authorities registered a case against Deepak under section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and filed separate charges against Jagdish under section 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), police officials confirmed.

Deepak was apprehended on October 10 and remains in judicial custody, while Jagdish was bound down in the case on November 3, police added.
