A devastating accident on the Aligarh-Agra highway near Samamai village in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district has claimed three lives, including that of a 12-year-old boy, while leaving 12 others injured following a head-on collision between a state roadways bus and a tanker on Thursday, according to officials.
The injured victims were promptly transported to the district hospital, with four requiring transfer to a specialized medical facility due to the severity of their conditions.
Police reports indicate the accident happened around 4:30 pm when the roadways bus traveling from Aligarh to Hathras collided with an oncoming tanker. The bus driver reportedly made a sudden maneuver to avoid striking a motorcycle, resulting in the fatal collision within the jurisdiction of Sasni police station.
In the chaos following the impact, several passengers jumped from the bus in panic. First responders, including police and local authorities, initially transferred the injured to the community health centre in Sasni before moving them to the district hospital for more comprehensive care.
Senior officials rushed to both the accident site and hospital upon receiving notification of the incident.
District Magistrate Atul Vats and Superintendent of Police Chiranjiv Nath Sinha visited the injured at the hospital, directing Chief Medical Officer (in-charge) Dr. Rajiv Rai and Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Surya Prakash to ensure the victims received proper medical attention and treatment.
Authorities have identified two of the deceased as Kuldeep, a 12-year-old resident of Tilothi village under Sasni police jurisdiction, and Maharaj Singh, 50, from Iglas Adda in Hathras. The identity of the third victim, believed to be either the tanker driver or cleaner, remains unconfirmed, according to police statements.
District Magistrate Vats explained, "The accident occurred when the bus driver attempted to avoid a motorcyclist, resulting in a head-on collision with the tanker. Twelve injured individuals have been brought to medical facilities, and we have confirmation of three fatalities.
