Lalit Modi's brother, Samir Modi, was arrested at the airport on Thursday following a Look-Out Circular issued by Delhi Police. He was returning from a business trip to Europe when authorities took him into custody.
A Delhi court has remanded Samir Modi to one day of police custody following his arrest. The action stems from an FIR registered last week at New Friends Colony Police Station based on a woman's complaint alleging a long-term relationship with Modi since 2019.
Modi's legal representative has strongly refuted these claims in a press statement, describing the allegations as "false and concocted" and motivated by extortion attempts. According to the statement, Modi had filed complaints on August 8 and August 13, 2025, reporting extortion and blackmail by the same woman, with WhatsApp evidence showing demands for 50 crore rupees.
The lawyer criticized law enforcement for acting hastily, pointing out that Modi had previously met with investigating officers regarding this case before traveling abroad, only to be "arbitrarily" arrested upon his return to India.
The statement further challenged the credibility of the complaint, noting that the accusations refer to events allegedly spanning four years, which "speaks volumes about the nature and origin of this complaint and the complainant's motives." It also emphasized that the alleged meetings occurred in public places, restaurants, commercial premises, and residences.
According to his legal team, Modi, who is involved in several business-related litigations, is "a respectable businessman" with "full faith in the judiciary of our country and agencies who will not only investigate but immediately bring closure to this matter."
