Faridabad Engineering Student Kidnapped and Assaulted After Rejecting Instagram Friend Request
Faridabad police have registered a case against three individuals who allegedly abducted and physically assaulted an engineering student for declining a woman's friend request on Instagram.
According to the complaint filed by Manoj Kumar from Dabua Colony, his son Dhruv Kumar, a first-year B.Tech student, received a friendship request from a woman on Instagram in July. When Dhruv did not accept the request, the woman reportedly responded with abusive messages.
Manoj Kumar claimed that the following day, as his son was returning from his institute near Neelam Chowk, he was kidnapped by three people identified as Harsh Bhadana, Lucky, and Asma, who apparently had connections to the woman who had sent the friend request.
"Harsh and Lucky forced my son onto a motorcycle while Asma followed on another bike. They beat up my son before abandoning him at Pyali Chowk," Manoj Kumar stated in his complaint.
The father further alleged that the assailants threatened his son, and despite approaching the police, no FIR was registered initially even after authorities questioned Dhruv. Frustrated by the lack of action, Manoj Kumar met with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (NIT) on September 12 to report the incident.
Police have now filed an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are conducting an investigation into the matter.
Inspector Shri Bhagwan, Station House Officer at Kotwali police station in Faridabad, explained: "Initially, the victim discussed resolving the issue privately among themselves. However, following the formal complaint, we have registered an FIR and commenced our investigation."
The investigation is currently ongoing.
