An FIR has been registered, and investigators have formed a specialized team to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for the crime.
New Delhi authorities are investigating a tragic incident involving a Delhi Jal Board officer who was discovered deceased on Sunday. The victim, 59-year-old Suresh Kumar Rathi, father of an NSG Major, was found lying in a pool of blood inside his Rohini apartment. The grim discovery occurred after his son Ankur Rathi alerted police about his father's murder.
The Rathi family maintains two residential properties in Delhi's Rohini Sector-24. The second residence, where the tragedy unfolded, had been acquired approximately four years prior. Reports indicate that Suresh Kumar Rathi would visit this particular apartment occasionally to consume alcohol.
During one such visit, family members became concerned when Suresh failed to return home for two consecutive days and stopped responding to telephone calls. His worried son Ankur decided to check on his father's welfare, only to find the apartment locked from outside.
Using a spare key to access the premises, Ankur made the devastating discovery of his father's lifeless body in the bathroom. On Sunday at approximately 3:30 pm, Ankur contacted the Police Control Room (PCR) to report the murder, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajeev Ranjan.
Law enforcement officials found alcoholic beverage containers on the living room's center table, along with personal effects including a mobile phone, wallet containing documentation, and car keys in another room of the two-bedroom residence.
The investigating officer noted a significant stab wound on the right side of the victim's neck. Crime scene specialists and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) technicians were summoned to examine the location thoroughly. The deceased has been transferred to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Authorities have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) and assembled an investigative team to locate and apprehend the suspect.
Major Jyoti Rathi, the victim's daughter, shared with NDTV her belief that the killer likely gained entry without force, as there were no indications of a break-in or ransacking of the property.
A senior police official stated, "Evidence suggests the victim was acquainted with the assailant. We are actively investigating potential motives for this crime."
High-ranking officers from the Rohini district have inspected the crime scene, and investigators are analyzing footage from numerous CCTV cameras in and around the neighborhood to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to this brutal murder.
According to police reports, the homicide appears to have occurred during a robbery, as several items, including jewelry, were reported missing from the apartment.
