Four individuals lost their lives after being struck by a train at Mirzapur's Chunar railway station in Uttar Pradesh this morning. The tragic incident occurred around 9:30 am when passengers disembarked from the wrong side of a train and were hit by another express train traveling at high speed on the adjacent track.
The victims had arrived at Chunar station aboard the Chopan-Prayagraj Express, which halted at Platform 4. Despite the presence of a foot overbridge connecting the platforms, several passengers chose to exit from the side opposite to the platform, taking a shortcut across the railway tracks to avoid walking the extra distance.
Unaware of the approaching danger, these individuals attempted to cross the main line when the Kalka-Howrah Express suddenly arrived at high velocity, striking several passengers. Railway authorities have confirmed that at least four people died in the collision. The railway administration has promptly ordered an investigation into the incident.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has acknowledged the accident, offering condolences to the bereaved families. He has directed officials to immediately proceed to the location and accelerate relief efforts, while also instructing that proper medical care be provided to any injured persons.
Following the accident, chaos erupted at the station, prompting the deployment of substantial police forces. Senior railway officials have arrived at the scene and are working to manage the situation and restore order.
Relief and rescue operations continue at the site as authorities respond to this unfortunate incident.
