Minutes Before Rajasthan Trucker Hit Vehicles, He Argued With A Car Driver

A car driver and the trucker were captured on CCTV surveillance moments before the tragic incident.

In Jaipur, just minutes prior to causing a devastating rampage that resulted in 14 fatalities, the driver of a dumper truck engaged in a heated altercation with another motorist on the road.

CCTV footage recorded shortly before Kalyan Meena's violent spree on Monday afternoon shows a car halting directly in front of his dumper truck. The car's driver exits his vehicle and approaches the truck to converse with Meena.

After this brief interaction, the car proceeds slowly, seemingly blocking the truck's path. In response, the truck driver overtakes the vehicle and ventures onto the incorrect side of the road. According to police officials, Meena traveled approximately 700 meters on the wrong side before returning to the main thoroughfare, where he proceeded to run over multiple vehicles in what appeared to be a fit of rage.

A high-ranking police officer informed NDTV that eyewitnesses reported an argument between the dumper driver and a car driver near a petrol station. Following this dispute, the car deliberately impeded the truck's progress and confronted the driver—an incident captured by the CCTV footage obtained by NDTV.

The official explained that the truck driver diverted to the wrong side of the road in an attempt to bypass the obstructing car.

"We have access to several CCTV recordings of the accident as it occurred in a busy commercial area. Police are analyzing and authenticating all available footage. Whether the truck driver had a confrontation with someone prior to causing the accident is definitely part of our investigation and will be thoroughly examined," stated Rahul Prakash, Jaipur Commissioner for Special Operations, in his communication with NDTV.

"This driver also has a previous case filed against him for reckless and negligent driving. That case was registered in 2024 in Ajeetgarh, Sikar, and will be incorporated into the current investigation. His blood samples have been collected, and the subsequent report detailing his alcohol consumption will establish his mental state at the time of the incident," he added.

According to preliminary police assessment, Kalyan Meena appeared to be intoxicated and drove on the incorrect side of the road in a state of anger.

Witnesses reported that he seemed to be operating the truck at approximately 100 kilometers per hour before colliding with 14 vehicles, striking three pedestrians, and crashing into another truck.

Following the incident, local residents physically assaulted him. He is currently receiving treatment at a private medical facility. Police officials have stated that while he has not sustained major injuries, he remains under observation in the Intensive Care Unit.
