Guwahati:
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the state government aims to file a chargesheet in the Zubeen Garg death investigation by December 8. Emphasizing that the singer's death was a murder rather than an accident, Sarma stated, "We will submit the chargesheet before December 17. Our target is December 8."
The Chief Minister explained that the process requires approval from the Union Home Ministry because the investigation involves elements connected to a foreign country. He confirmed having already discussed this matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
This announcement comes amid ongoing public demonstrations and pressure from citizens demanding justice for the renowned singer who died under mysterious circumstances.
Addressing the controversy surrounding land allocation for 'Zubeen Khetra,' the proposed memorial site, Sarma confirmed that the government has already designated land for the project. He stated it will be developed following the model of Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra in Guwahati.
"The land for Zubeen Khetra has been allotted. Just like we built Bhupen Hazarika's memorial, we will build Zubeen's," the Chief Minister assured.
However, Sarma clarified that monitoring ownership of private plots adjacent to government land falls outside his responsibilities as Chief Minister.
"It is not my lookout who owns land on the left or right of the khetra. My concern is only the land that the government has allotted for the memorial," he emphasized.
These statements come amid political debates and social media discussions regarding alleged connections between a minister, Ashok Singhal, and land near the project, with questions being raised about how the minister could possess land in a protected tribal belt.
