Tragic Bus-Truck Collision on Hyderabad-Bijapur Highway Claims 20 Lives in Telangana

Twenty people have lost their lives and numerous others sustained injuries following a collision between a passenger bus and a gravel-laden truck on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway this morning. The tragic incident occurred in Telangana's Rangareddy district, approximately 60 kilometers from Hyderabad.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation bus was reportedly carrying around 70 passengers. It was en route from Tandur in Vikarabad district to Hyderabad when it collided with a truck transporting construction material. The impact caused the gravel from the truck to cascade into the bus, trapping several passengers underneath.

Among the deceased were a 10-month-old infant, 10 women, and both vehicle operators. The injured passengers were transported to a government hospital, with reports indicating that some remain in critical condition.

Distressing scenes unfolded as trapped individuals beneath the gravel called out desperately for assistance. Law enforcement and emergency responders worked diligently to extricate the injured. Rescue teams had to cut through the bus structure to recover the bodies.

The driver's section and the six subsequent rows of seats suffered the most severe damage, resulting in immediate fatalities for most occupants in this area.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has conveyed his grief regarding the road accident and instructed officials to immediately proceed to the location to facilitate rescue and relief operations.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has consulted with the road transport corporation's Managing Director, Y Nagireddy, concerning the accident's causes and has directed the Rangareddy district collector to ensure proper medical care for the injured.

KT Rama Rao, working president of Telangana's main opposition BRS, extended his sympathies to the families of those who perished. "The government must respond immediately and provide relief to the families of the dead and to the injured. Victims should be given the best possible medical care. A full investigation must be carried out into the causes of this horrific accident," he stated.
