A woman suffered critical injuries after being pushed from a moving train by an intoxicated passenger near Varkala on Sunday, according to police reports.
The suspect, identified as Suresh Kumar from Vellarada in Thiruvananthapuram, has been apprehended by authorities.
Railway police officials stated that the incident took place shortly after the Kerala Express departed from Varkala railway station at approximately 8:30 pm.
The victim and her companion had boarded the unreserved compartment at Aluva and were traveling to Thiruvananthapuram when the incident occurred.
According to police, Suresh allegedly pushed the woman out of the moving train as she exited the washroom, where he had been standing near the door.
After passengers alerted authorities, police conducted a search and discovered the woman lying on the railway tracks approximately two kilometers from Varkala station.
She was immediately transported to a nearby private hospital before being transferred to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Medical staff report that her condition remains critical due to severe internal injuries.
The accused was intercepted by Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel and subsequently handed over to railway police at Kochuveli station.
In her statement, the victim's friend recounted the attack, saying, "We were coming out of the washroom when he attacked us. He kicked her out of the train and then attempted to pull me down as well, but I managed to escape by gripping the handrail at the door until others pulled me to safety."
Police confirmed that Suresh was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident and had boarded the train from Kottayam. Following his arrest, he was taken to Fort Hospital for medical examination.
