A man and his son have been arrested after a viral Instagram reel showed the son firing in the air during Diwali celebrations in Delhi's Shastri Nagar. The weapon is registered in the father's name, but his firearm license had expired earlier.

New Delhi authorities have taken into custody Mukesh Kumar, 42, a catering and sweets business owner, along with his son Sumit Kumar, 22, for violating the Arms Act during Diwali festivities.
According to North District DCP Raja Banthia, "On October 30, an Anti-Narcotics Cell team on routine patrol received information about a viral social media reel showing a young man firing in the air. The team quickly traced the individual to his shop in Shastri Nagar and apprehended him."
During questioning, Sumit admitted he had recorded the video seeking social media popularity. On Diwali night, he took his father's licensed pistol from a drawer and fired two rounds into the air, later uploading the footage to Instagram where it quickly went viral.
Authorities arrested Mukesh after discovering his firearm license had expired on October 1. Police have seized the pistol from their residence and filed charges for endangering human life and violations under the Arms Act.
Law enforcement officials noted that this incident exemplifies a concerning trend of social media platform misuse for online attention at the expense of public safety.
