In a disturbing case from Bengaluru's Uttarahalli area, authorities have apprehended a 17-year-old girl and her friends for allegedly murdering her mother and attempting to disguise the crime as suicide.
The victim, identified as 35-year-old Netravathi, was employed as an assistant at a loan recovery organization, according to police reports.
The tragic incident took place on October 25. Suspicions arose when the daughter disappeared shortly after her mother's death, prompting Netravathi's sister to file a report at Subramanyapura police station, which led to the registration of a murder case.
During their investigation, authorities determined that the minors had fatally strangled Netravathi with a towel before hanging her body from a ceiling fan using a saree to create the appearance of suicide. They subsequently fled the scene, a senior police officer revealed.
The officer cited preliminary findings indicating that Netravathi had recently learned about her daughter's relationship with a boy who made frequent visits to their residence. She had expressed opposition to the relationship and instructed the boy to stay away. The teenagers had apparently been introduced through the girl's cousin.
"The daughter was directly involved in the murder, which was orchestrated by her boyfriend after they were caught spending time together at home on the same day," explained the investigating officer.
Law enforcement has detained five minors in connection with the crime—the girl and four male associates—who have been transferred to a juvenile facility, officials confirmed.
