Bahraich:
A series of suspected wolf attacks has triggered widespread fear across approximately twelve villages in Kaisarganj and Mahsi tehsils of Bahraich district. Officials reported on Thursday that over the past 20 days, eleven incidents have occurred, resulting in the deaths of two young girls and injuries to nine individuals.
Officials have mobilized more than 100 personnel, including police forces, forest department staff, and specialists from neighboring states, to locate and trap the predators. "We've established a control room and deployed teams utilizing thermal drones, night-vision technology, and camera traps," explained Dr Simran M, Conservator of Forest, Devipatan Division.
In response, villagers have started conducting night patrols armed with sticks.
On September 9, a wolf allegedly abducted four-year-old Jyoti, whose body was discovered the following morning. Two days later, on September 11, three-month-old Sandhya was reportedly taken from her mother's arms and subsequently found with lethal wounds.
Forest department officials have confirmed tracking two wolves using drone technology but have not yet succeeded in capturing either animal.
The current incidents mirror a similar pattern from the previous year, when wolf packs killed nine people and wounded dozens more in the same area.
Authorities had previously designated the region as a "wildlife disaster-prone area" and launched "Operation Wolf" to capture the predatory animals.
