Death Penalty Handed to Five Convicts in 2015 Chittoor Mayor Murder Case

Five individuals received the death penalty for the 2015 murder of former Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan. The attackers, including Mohan's nephew, entered the municipal office disguised in burqas and committed the crime over a family dispute. A court in Andhra Pradesh sentenced five individuals to death on Friday for the 2015 murder of former Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband, Katari Mohan.

The brutal killings occurred inside the Chittoor Municipal Corporation office on November 17, 2015.

Sriram Chandrasekhar, the nephew of Katari Mohan, was identified as the primary accused. He was convicted alongside four accomplices: Govinda Swami Srinivasaiah Venkatachalapathy (alias Venkatesh), Jayaprakash Reddy (alias Jayareddy), Manjunath (alias Manju), and Muniratnam Venkatesh.

The perpetrators entered the municipal office disguised in burqas, attacked the couple with knives and daggers, and ultimately shot Katari Anuradha dead.

According to police investigations, the attack stemmed from an ongoing family dispute.

Authorities implemented extensive security measures prior to the verdict announcement. They restricted access to court premises, allowing only court staff inside while prohibiting public gatherings, rallies, and celebrations in the vicinity.
