Pune:
Four students from Symbiosis International University in Pune experienced a devastating outcome from their Lonavala excursion when a fatal road accident claimed two lives and left two others injured on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway early Wednesday morning.
Traveling back from Lonavala in a Maruti Swift, the students' vehicle collided with a stationary container truck near Eidgah Maidan in Pune at approximately 5:45 am.
The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of Divya Raj Singh Rathod (20) and Siddhant Anand Shekhar (20), while their companions Harsh Mishra (21) and Nihar Tamboli (20) sustained minor injuries, according to police reports. The injured students have been transported to a private medical facility for treatment.
The four BBA students had embarked on their journey to Lonavala—typically a 90-minute drive from campus—the previous night and were returning when the tragedy occurred.
Authorities have detained the truck driver, identified as Manish Kumar Suraj Manipal (39), and launched an investigation to determine the accident's cause.
Images from the accident scene reveal the car's severely damaged condition. The front portion of one side was completely crushed, and the vehicle's frame was severely distorted.
