Amazon has processed a refund while the investigation is ongoing.
Bengaluru:
A software engineer from Bengaluru became the target of a delivery scam when he received a tile instead of the Samsung smartphone worth Rs 1.87 Lakh that he had purchased from Amazon.
The victim, identified as Premanand, ordered the smartphone on October 14 through the Amazon application and completed the full payment using his credit card.
Upon delivery on October 19, he filmed the unboxing of the sealed package only to discover a piece of tile inside rather than the smartphone he had ordered.
"I ordered a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 costing Rs 1.87 lakh, but was shocked to find a marble stone instead of the phone just before Diwali. This incident completely spoiled the festive mood we had been looking forward to celebrating all year. I strongly advise everyone to exercise extreme caution when making online purchases, particularly on Amazon. This experience has been thoroughly disappointing," Premanand stated.
Following the discovery, he promptly filed a report with the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and subsequently visited the Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station to file an official complaint.
The police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the matter.
Amazon has refunded Premanand's payment as the investigation continues.
