A forensic team conducted an inspection at the residence of the woman in question.
In a disturbing discovery in Kerala's Thrissur district, authorities found the decomposed remains of a newborn infant inside a bag at a local quarry. Police have subsequently arrested the child's mother for abandoning her baby.
The gruesome discovery occurred on Thursday when the decomposed body was located within a bag at the quarry site.
The case came to light after medical staff at Thrissur Medical College alerted law enforcement when a woman named Swapna sought medical attention approximately two weeks after giving birth.
According to police reports, Swapna had deliberately hidden her pregnancy from her family. She admitted to investigators that she had been consuming abortion medication during her eighth month of pregnancy. She eventually experienced labor and delivered the infant in her bathroom without any medical assistance.
Following the birth, Swapna placed the newborn inside a bag and abandoned it at the quarry. Forensic experts have since examined her residence for evidence.
Currently, Swapna is receiving medical treatment at Thrissur Medical College. Authorities have filed charges against her under Sections 88 and 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
