New Delhi:
The BJP has formally lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi regarding his statement suggesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi would dance if it meant securing votes.
In their submission to Bihar's chief election officer, the BJP stated that such remarks disrespected the Prime Minister's office and "exceed all limits of appropriate conduct".
"This statement not only shows profound disrespect toward the Prime Minister's office but also transgresses all boundaries of proper democratic discourse. Such personal, mocking comments are clearly intended to demean the dignity of India's highest constitutional position," the party stated in their complaint.
During his Wednesday rally in Bihar, Gandhi reiterated accusations of "vote theft" and declared, "He simply wants your vote. If you instruct Narendra Modi to dance, he will dance... they are systematically stealing your votes. They intend to eliminate this election process. I am telling you, they stole elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, and will certainly attempt the same in Bihar."
The BJP responded by accusing the Congress MP of insulting voters and undermining Indian democracy, with the Prime Minister addressing these comments during his Thursday rally in Muzaffarpur.
"The significant development in this election isn't the insults directed at me, but rather the internal conflict between RJD and Congress. Their relationship resembles oil and water. Reports from throughout Bihar indicate RJD members are removing Congress workers' posters, while Congress workers demonstrate hostility toward RJD. Only power hunger has brought these parties together," PM Modi remarked.
Addressing Gandhi's comments about the Prime Minister planning to bathe in a specially constructed pond for Chhath Puja, Modi claimed that Congress and RJD were disrespecting the goddess.
"How shamefully are RJD and Congress speaking? Do they consider worship of Chhathi Maiya merely a performance? Bihar stands for self-respect. Bihar will never forgive those who have insulted Chhath Puja," the Prime Minister declared.
"Your son proudly honors Chhathi Maiya before the world, while Congress and RJD leaders disrespect her. Would anyone ever disrespect Chhathi Maiya for electoral advantage? Will Bihar accept such disrespect? Will my mothers, who observe fasts without water, tolerate this?" he questioned.
