A Ray Of Hope For Mothers Who Lost Their Children In Jhalawar School Tragedy

Kota (Rajasthan): Two mothers, Binti Bai and Raju Bai, who experienced the devastating loss of their children in the Piplodi, Jhalawar school collapse, are now on a path to reclaim motherhood through recanalisation surgery.

Prior to the July 25 tragedy, both women had undergone sterilization procedures as part of the family welfare program. The catastrophic incident occurred when a section of the government school in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district collapsed during morning prayer assembly, claiming seven young lives and leaving 28 children injured, with several in critical condition.

Raju Bai, whose 10-year-old son Kartik perished in the collapse, underwent her sterilization reversal procedure last month. Binti Bai, who suffered the unimaginable loss of both her children—7-year-old Kanha and 10-year-old Meena—had her surgery successfully completed on Wednesday.

Dr. Sajid Khan, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Jhalawar, explained, "Following the tragedy, both mothers experienced severe shock and depression. Our team provided psychological counseling and suggested recanalisation as a path toward renewed motherhood."

"We rarely perform recanalisation procedures, but chose to conduct these operations in Jhalawar specifically to provide hope to families affected by this tragedy," Dr. Khan added.

Under the district collector's directive, both women will receive access to IVF facilities in Kota and Jaipur, according to Dr. Khan.

After visiting the grieving families post-tragedy, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and MP Dushyant Singh instructed the district collector to arrange sterilization reversal surgeries for these two bereaved mothers.

District Collector Ajay Singh Rathore subsequently directed Dr. Khan to assemble a medical team to evaluate the women for sterilization reversal, offering them an opportunity to experience motherhood again following their tremendous losses.

Following these directives, Dr. Khan arranged Raju Bai's sterilization reversal operation at Heera Bai Kanwar Women's Hospital in Jhalawar. On Wednesday, Dr. Madhurima Verma and her team successfully performed Binti Bai's operation at the same hospital.
