In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district, a 35-year-old man named Ravi was beaten to death when he attempted to meet his 18-year-old girlfriend Manisha, who was being forcibly married to someone else by her family.
Ravi had traveled to Parchchh village after learning about Manisha's impending wedding. Upon his arrival, he was caught by her family members who, in a fit of rage, restrained him before subjecting him to a brutal assault with sticks. Local villagers reportedly joined in the attack. Despite Ravi's pleas for water as his condition deteriorated, his requests were denied.
Following Ravi's death, the severity of the situation dawned on the attackers. Manisha's 35-year-old uncle, Pintu, allegedly attempted suicide to avoid murder charges, according to sources familiar with the incident.
Authorities were subsequently notified and transported both Ravi and Pintu to the community health center in Maudaha. Medical staff pronounced Ravi dead upon arrival, while Pintu was transferred to the district hospital for treatment.
Upon learning of Ravi's death, Manisha also attempted suicide by slitting her throat. Both she and her uncle remain in critical condition. Police have admitted Manisha to the community health center in Maudaha town for medical attention.
The family has presented a contradictory version of events, claiming that Ravi was the aggressor who attacked Pintu. Manisha's grandmother stated that when she returned from Maudaha, she discovered Ravi had entered their home. According to her account, "When the girl called out, he stabbed Pintu." She added that Manisha had previously eloped with Ravi, who was "already filled with anger."
Pintu's wife offered a similar narrative, claiming that Ravi attacked her husband when he opened the door. "He was knocking and my husband caught him. The man was carrying a knife and stabbed my husband," she asserted.
The incident has created significant tension and fear throughout the village community.
Diksha Sharma, Hamirpur's Superintendent of Police, confirmed that a dispute erupted between two groups in Parchchh village, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. She acknowledged that the young woman had harmed herself and is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital.
