Early this morning, a private luxury bus transporting 12 passengers from Mumbai to Jalna burst into flames while traveling on the Samruddhi Highway. Thanks to the driver's swift action, all passengers, along with the driver and his assistant, were safely evacuated.
The incident took place at approximately 3 am on the highway's Nagpur Lane. Bus driver Hussain Sayyed's quick thinking prevented what could have been a tragic accident. He immediately halted the vehicle and ensured all passengers exited safely, potentially saving twelve lives.
Footage from the scene revealed the bus completely engulfed by flames.
Upon receiving notification, fire officials, highway police, and toll plaza personnel promptly arrived at the location to contain the blaze. Emergency services including ambulance and lifeguard teams also responded quickly to the scene.
The burning bus temporarily caused traffic congestion in the Nagpur Lane. Authorities have yet to determine what caused the fire.
Several recent incidents involving buses catching fire on isolated highways have sparked growing concerns among officials and travelers. The most devastating occurred last week in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, when a bus erupted in flames after colliding with a two-wheeler, resulting in 19 passenger fatalities.
In another recent case, a double-decker sleeper bus caught fire near the Revri toll plaza on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway last Sunday. The driver and conductor successfully evacuated all 70 passengers without any casualties.
