The Delhi Police has apprehended a 59-year-old individual implicated in espionage activities, including connections with a foreign nuclear scientist, and involvement in a counterfeit passport operation based in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
The suspect, Mohammad Adil Hussaini, who used multiple aliases such as Syed Adil Hussain, Nasimuddin, and Syed Adil Hussaini, was detained in Delhi's Seemapuri area two days prior.
According to police sources, the accused maintained contact with a nuclear scientist abroad and had visited numerous countries, including Pakistan. The source indicated that he allegedly secured three identification cards for a sensitive facility using falsified documentation.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah confirmed that Adil resides in Tata Nagar, Jamshedpur.
"Adil and his sibling Akhtar Hussaini are believed to have transmitted sensitive information to foreign nations and obtained multiple Indian passports through fraudulent documentation," stated the officer.
The entire operation was reportedly orchestrated from Jamshedpur, where counterfeit identity cards and passports were manufactured using falsified documents.
During the search, authorities confiscated one authentic and two fraudulent passports from Adil's possession. He was charged under sections 61(2) (Criminal conspiracy), 318 (Cheating), 338 (Forgery of valuable security, will, etc) and 340 (Forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine) of the BNS on October 26, the Additional CP added.
A senior police official revealed that Mumbai Police have arrested Adil's brother Akhtar, who had traveled to several Gulf nations and was also involved in securing the three identification cards.
Investigation teams are currently determining how many individuals received counterfeit passports through this network.
Adil appeared before a court that remanded him to seven days of police custody for further investigation, Kushwah confirmed.
