Fatal Jaipur Bus Accident: 2 Dead After Vehicle Contacts High-Tension Power Line, Multiple Critically Injured

Two individuals, identified as father and daughter, perished in a tragic bus electrocution incident in Jaipur.

In a devastating accident, two people were fatally burned when a bus transporting laborers made contact with a high-tension power line. The incident occurred when an 11,000-kilovolt power line snapped and fell onto the vehicle, triggering an electric shock followed by a fire. The laborers aboard had traveled from Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh to work at a brick kiln in Todi.

Five laborers are currently in critical condition and have been transferred to Sawai Maan Singh Hospital in Jaipur. Four additional passengers are receiving treatment at Shahpura Sub-District Hospital.

Firefighters have successfully contained the blaze, and authorities have initiated an investigation. Police personnel are examining the wreckage and reviewing identification documents to confirm the identities of passengers and victims.

Images from the scene reveal a motorcycle, which had been stored at the rear of the bus, completely destroyed by the fire.

The two fatalities have been identified as 50-year-old Naseem and his 20-year-old daughter Sahinam. Their remains have been placed in a mortuary.

The five critically injured individuals transferred to Jaipur government hospital include three women: Nazma, Sitara, and Naheem. Two other injured passengers have been identified as Azar and Altaaf.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV Rajasthan, the local Sub-Divisional Magistrate explained that the bus was carrying excessive luggage on its roof, which struck the high-tension wire, causing it to break and igniting the fire on the vehicle.

Local residents claim they had previously reported concerns about the damaged wire to electricity department officials and had requested repairs.

A fire department representative revealed to NDTV Rajasthan that the bus was carrying 15 LPG cylinders, two of which exploded during the incident. The official stated, "I cannot confirm the exact passenger count, but we managed to rescue 25 individuals. Two passengers died immediately at the scene."

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot described the incident as "heartbreaking" and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. He voiced concern about the frequency of road accidents and resulting fatalities in Rajasthan, adding, "I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."

Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari offered wishes for strength to the families of the victims and a swift recovery for those injured.

This tragedy occurs just two weeks after another catastrophic bus accident in Rajasthan. On October 15, twenty people lost their lives when a private bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire. That bus, carrying 57 passengers, departed Jaisalmer around 3 pm when smoke began emanating from the rear section while on the highway. Although the driver pulled over, flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle. According to witnesses, passengers attempting to escape found the only exit door jammed.
