Behen Hai Meri: Siblings Claim Cops Harassed Them At Bihar Eatery

A social media controversy has erupted after CCTV footage captured a Bihar police officer allegedly harassing a brother and sister dining at a restaurant in Barsoi. The incident, which took place on October 24 at BR-11 Restaurant, has drawn widespread criticism online.

The video shows the Station House Officer (SHO) approaching the siblings seated together. When the officer questions, "Kaun hai ye? (Who is this sitting with you?)", the man calmly responds, "Behen hai meri (She is my sister)."

Rather than accepting this answer, the officer appeared agitated and accused the man of "talking back," warning him about his tone. The man maintained his composure, explaining, "Aapne poocha toh maine bola behen hai (You asked, so I just told you that she is my sister)."

The confrontation intensified when another police officer joined, seemingly backing the SHO. During the exchange, the woman began recording the interaction on her mobile phone.

Sharing the footage online, the brother wrote, "This incident occurred yesterday night when we went for family dinner in Barsoi, Bihar, which falls under Katihar district. So we can't even take our sister for a family dinner if it's election time in Bihar?" He tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Katihar Police in his post.

The video quickly gained traction across social media platforms, prompting the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Katihar, to initiate an investigation.

In their official statement, Katihar Police explained that routine inspections were being conducted at various establishments on October 24 in preparation for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

According to police, they received information around 8 pm about "anti-social elements" at the restaurant. The SHO, accompanied by Assistant Sub-Inspector Ranjan Kumar Yadav and a female constable, arrived at approximately 8:10 pm and began questioning patrons about their identities and addresses.

The police statement claimed that the siblings failed to provide "satisfactory answers" and allegedly used inappropriate language, which led to the heated confrontation.

After being informed about the incident, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Barsoi has issued a showcause notice to the SHO, and additional measures are being taken to address the situation.
