A nationwide arrest warrant has been issued across Canada for an Indian-origin man following the murder of a 27-year-old woman of Indian heritage last week.

Manpreet Singh, a 27-year-old Brampton resident, is being sought for the second-degree murder of Amanpreet Saini.

According to police reports, Saini's body was discovered with "traumatic injuries" in a Lincoln park on October 21.

The Niagara Regional Police Service stated officially that "Investigators have information indicating Singh left the country shortly after Amanpreet's body was found."

Authorities believe this was "a targeted attack with no ongoing threat to public safety."

Police have released Singh's photograph and warned the public "not to approach" him if spotted, instructing them to "Call 911 immediately" instead.

Sources informed NDTV that Singh, whose family originates from Punjab, has escaped to India.

Canadian security agencies have reportedly contacted their Indian counterparts seeking assistance with his arrest.

Saini, who was originally from Punjab's Sangrur district, had reportedly been residing in Toronto for several years.
