Tragic Drowning During Chhath Puja: 17-Year-Old Boy Dies in Ganga River, Another Teen Missing

A tragic accident during Chhath Puja celebrations in Uttar Pradesh has claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy who drowned in the Ganga river at Nifra village in Vindhyachal. Three others were rescued by a local boatman, while search operations continue for a missing 16-year-old. The incident highlights water safety concerns during religious festivities.

A tragic incident occurred on Monday during Chhath Puja celebrations when a 17-year-old boy drowned in the Ganga river, while another teenager is still missing, according to police reports.

The unfortunate event took place at Nifra village in the Vindhyachal area when five individuals went to bathe in the Ganga around noon and began experiencing difficulties in the water.

Three of the individuals were successfully rescued by a local boatman, while one person was confirmed deceased and another remains missing in the river.

In the evening, local diving teams recovered the body of Anurag Saroj (17) from the river. Meanwhile, search operations continue for Om Pandey (16), police officials stated.

Vindhayanchal Station House Officer (SHO) Ved Prakash Pandey identified the rescued individuals as Shivam Pandey (25), Shivam Sharma (17), and Som Pandey (11), all residents of Nifra village.

According to the officer, boatman Lau Nishad managed to save three of them by throwing an oar in their direction, but unfortunately was unable to rescue Anurag and Om.

Police have confirmed that search efforts are ongoing to locate the missing teenager.
