Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended his warm greetings to devotees celebrating Chhath Puja on Monday with a special visit to Juhu Beach in Mumbai, where he affirmed his government's continued support for this important festival.
The Chhath festival holds particular political significance this year as Mumbai's civic elections approach, with the city's substantial North Indian population being an important voting bloc. The festival's timing also coincides with upcoming elections in Bihar.
At Juhu Beach, where the Chhath Utsav Maha Sangh organized the "Chhath Maha Parva" celebrations, Fadnavis joined thousands of devotees who gathered along the shoreline despite intermittent rainfall affecting the city in recent days.
A video shared by ANI captured the Chief Minister participating in the festivities at Juhu Beach, highlighting the importance of this cultural event.
During his visit, Fadnavis emphasized the religious significance of Lord Surya Narayan and Chhathi Maiyya in Hindu traditions. He noted that Chhath celebrations have become a regular feature in Mumbai over the years, and since 2014, his administration has provided substantial support through local municipal authorities.
The four-day Chhath celebrations commenced on October 25 and will conclude on October 28. The festival is traditionally observed on the sixth day of Kartik Shukla, six days after Diwali, when worshippers honor the sun god and seek blessings from 'Chhathi Maiyya'.
