A devastating incident occurred in Bihar's Bhagalpur district on Monday morning when four children drowned in the Ganges river while bathing in preparation for the Chhath festival celebrations.

Naugachia SP Prerna Kumar confirmed that the tragedy took place at Navtoliya within the jurisdiction of the Ismailpur police station.

"The children, including two residents from the neighboring Chhathu Singh Tola village, had been brought to the ghat by their family members," the SP explained. Following the incident, divers immediately worked to retrieve the children from the river.

"Officials from both police and local administration quickly arrived at the scene. The children were immediately transported to a nearby medical facility where doctors unfortunately declared them dead on arrival," the SP further stated.

The SP confirmed that all four victims were children between the ages of 10 and 15 years.

In response to this tragedy, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has released an official statement expressing his profound grief over the incident.
