Election Commission Announces Phase Two of Special Intensive Revision Covering 12 States and UTs

The Election Commission has launched phase two of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 states and Union Territories including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. This significant electoral exercise will encompass 51 crore voters with enumeration beginning November 4. This marks the first comprehensive revision of voter lists in over 21 years, with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar overseeing the process.

The Election Commission today announced phase two of special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union Territories (UTs). West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are among the states in phase two. The SIR in 12 states will cover 51 crore voters, and the enumeration process will begin on November 4, said Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The Chief Election Commissioner, during a press conference, expressed gratitude to the people of Bihar for the successful completion of SIR in the state. "Voters in Bihar participated enthusiastically. As a result, not a single appeal was filed," he stated.

Kumar mentioned that the enumeration form of SIR this time will differ from the Bihar SIR.

Voter lists will be frozen tonight in the states where phase two of SIRs will be conducted.

The last SIR was conducted more than 21 years ago, in 2002-2004. According to the Chief Election Commissioner, it has already been implemented eight times between 1951 and 2004.
