BJP Leader in Madhya Pradesh Allegedly Murders Farmer Over Land Dispute and Attacks His Family

A wave of terror and grief has descended upon Ganeshpura village in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district, approximately 200 km from Bhopal, following a brutal act of violence allegedly perpetrated by a local BJP leader. What started as a land dispute escalated into a deadly confrontation on Sunday afternoon when Mahendra Nagar, BJP Booth Committee President and former office bearer of the Guna Kisan Morcha, allegedly beat farmer Ramswaroop Dhakad to death, broke his limbs, and ran him over with a Thar jeep.

The victim, a 40-year-old farmer, was walking to his fields with his wife when the alleged ambush occurred. According to witnesses and police reports, Mahendra Nagar and approximately 13 to 14 associates violently assaulted Ramswaroop with sticks and rods before driving a vehicle over him.

When the farmer's daughters rushed to their father's aid, they too were reportedly attacked in front of village onlookers. Witnesses told police that the armed assailants fired shots in the air to instill fear. "When I attempted to save my father, they pushed me down, tore my clothes, and fired shots to frighten us," the victim's daughter recounted tearfully. "My parents were heading to the fields when Mahendra, Harish, and Gautam attacked them. They then ran over my father with the Thar. He screamed, but nobody could help because they were armed."

For nearly an hour, Ramswaroop's severely injured body remained in the village, with witnesses claiming the accused prevented anyone from taking him to the hospital at gunpoint. When finally transported to Guna District Hospital, Ramswaroop succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Ganeshpura village, under the jurisdiction of Fatehgarh police station, has reportedly long lived under the accused's influence. Villagers claim Mahendra Nagar's name evokes fear, silencing opposition. "He has been seizing land for years," one villager stated anonymously. "At least 25 farmers have sold their properties at minimal prices and fled. Those who resist face beatings or expulsion."

Ramswaroop refused to yield, and his defiance ultimately cost him his life. The dispute centered around six bighas of land located in Pachlawada, Rajasthan.

By Sunday evening, police registered a case against 14 individuals, including Mahendra Nagar, Jitendra Nagar, and three women from their family. Charges were filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including murder, conspiracy, assault, and outraging women's modesty.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vivek Asthana of Bamuri confirmed that authorities have launched extensive raids to apprehend the remaining suspects. "This incident occurred in Ganeshpura village. The victim, Ramswaroop, had a land dispute with Kanhaiya Nagar from Pachlavada, Rajasthan. The contested six bighas of land are also located in Pachlavada. Due to this ongoing enmity, Kanhaiya, Mahendra, and approximately 13-14 people, including some women, attacked Ramswaroop. He suffered multiple fractures throughout his body and was run over by a vehicle. His daughters were also assaulted during the attack. The victims were promptly transported to Guna for treatment, but Ramswaroop died from his injuries that evening. A case has been registered at Fatehgarh Police Station, and investigations continue," Asthana explained.

The case has reverberated through Guna's political circles. District BJP President Dharmendra Sikarwar confirmed the accused's party affiliation. "Yes, Mahendra Nagar is a party worker and booth president," Sikarwar acknowledged. "We have written to senior officials demanding his immediate removal from the BJP. No one is above the law."
