Amrita Chauhan has been apprehended for orchestrating the murder of 32-year-old Ram Kesh Meena.
In New Delhi, a disturbing murder conspiracy has been unveiled by police three weeks after discovering the charred remains of a 32-year-old civil services candidate in north Delhi's Timarpur area.
Investigators have determined that the victim's 21-year-old live-in partner conspired with her former boyfriend to murder him after he refused to erase her private recordings stored on his hard drive. A mutual acquaintance served as the third accomplice in this meticulously planned crime. All three individuals have now been taken into custody, and their interrogations have revealed the horrific details of the murder.
The incident began on October 6 when authorities responded to a fire alert in Gandhi Vihar, Timarpur. After extinguishing the flames, they discovered a severely burned body in a fourth-floor apartment. The deceased was identified as Ram Kesh Meena, a 32-year-old preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.
Ram Kesh's relatives expressed suspicions, prompting police to register a case and launch an investigation. While reviewing surveillance footage from the building, investigators noticed something alarming. Two individuals with concealed faces entered the premises the night before the fire. Later, one person exited alone. Subsequently, a man and a woman departed from the building. The woman was identified as Amrita Chauhan, Ram Kesh's live-in partner. The CCTV footage showed that the fire erupted shortly after their departure. Amrita's mobile phone data confirmed her presence near Ram Kesh's apartment during the incident. Police added murder charges and initiated a comprehensive investigation into the conspiracy.
Amrita's phone remained inactive following the incident. After multiple raids, authorities apprehended her on October 18. During questioning, she identified her accomplices – former boyfriend Sumit Kashyap and Sandeep Kumar. Sumit was detained on October 21, followed by Sandeep on October 23.
Amrita revealed to investigators that she met Ram Kesh in May this year, and they quickly developed a relationship. They shared the Gandhi Vihar apartment. During their relationship, Ram Kesh allegedly recorded intimate videos of Amrita and stored them digitally. Upon discovering this, she demanded he delete the recordings, but he continuously avoided the issue. Amrita shared this problem with her ex-boyfriend Sumit, who became furious. Together, they devised a plan to murder Meena in a manner disguised as an accidental fire, according to police reports.
Sumit worked in LPG cylinder distribution and had knowledge about cylinder explosion timeframes. Meanwhile, Amrita studied forensic sciences and was heavily influenced by crime series, which she used to plan her partner's murder. They also enlisted their mutual friend, 29-year-old Sandeep Kumar, as a co-conspirator.
On the night of October 5, Sumit and Sandeep assaulted Ram Kesh before strangling him to death. They then doused his body with cooking oil, clarified butter, and wine to accelerate the fire. Sumit relocated the gas cylinder from the kitchen to position it near Ram Kesh's head. He opened the valve, allowing gas to fill the room. The perpetrators had already taken Ram Kesh's laptops, the hard drive containing the videos, and other belongings. After final preparations, Sumit ignited the fire with a lighter and locked the main entrance. Approximately one hour after their departure, the cylinder exploded, leaving behind Ram Kesh's charred remains. Although the fire destroyed most evidence, the perpetrators failed to consider the surveillance cameras. Police have recovered the hard drive that motivated the murder, along with other possessions belonging to Ram Kesh. Two mobile phones from the accused have also been confiscated.
