Police recovered murder weapons and blood-stained clothing of the accused during the investigation.
In Bahraich district, authorities have arrested a woman and her lover for allegedly murdering her husband who had opposed their relationship, police confirmed on Sunday.
The victim, 35-year-old Zakir Ali from Alinagar Kala village, had been married to Haseena Begum (30) for a decade. The couple had six children together, according to officials.
Police reports indicate that Zakir's body was discovered Saturday morning underneath a tin shed in the verandah of their residence.
Initially, Haseena reported to Khairighat police on Saturday that Zakir's uncle, Asif Ali, along with relatives Rozan and Nafees, had murdered her husband over a dispute regarding ancestral land division. However, as authorities began investigating the complaint, they uncovered a completely different narrative.
Through careful examination of evidence and information from local informants, investigation teams discovered that Haseena was engaged in an extramarital relationship with 20-year-old Abdul Salam (alias Piddi). The pair had conspired together to commit the murder, stated Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari.
The Additional SP further revealed that following their Sunday arrest, Haseena and Salam were interrogated and subsequently confessed to the crime.
Their confession detailed a relationship spanning nearly two years, with Zakir being perceived as an obstacle to their future plans. Consequently, they formulated a scheme to kill him and frame his relatives for the murder, the officer elaborated.
Providing specifics of their plan, the officer explained that on October 24, after Zakir fell asleep, Haseena invited Salam to their home.
Together, they strangled the sleeping Zakir with a dupatta, before dragging him to the verandah where they slit his throat with a knife. Following this, Haseena filed a formal written complaint against Asif Ali and his relatives as part of their premeditated plan, Tiwari explained.
Based on the confessions, police have recovered crucial evidence including the murder weapon (a knife), the dupatta used for strangulation, blood-stained clothing belonging to both accused, and their mobile phones.
Superintendent of Police Ram Nayan Singh has announced a Rs 20,000 cash reward for the police team that successfully uncovered the truth behind this incident.
