Bengaluru:
In Karnataka's Bidar district, a 27-year-old man from Maharashtra was fatally beaten over allegations of an extramarital relationship.
The victim, identified as Vishu, resided in Gaunagaon village in Maharashtra's Nanded district. The perpetrators of the assault were family members of the woman with whom he was allegedly involved.
Authorities have apprehended the perpetrators.
Police discovered the victim in a semi-conscious condition according to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Chintaki village's police station in Bidar. Officers had received information about a man being restrained and assaulted in the village.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Vishu severely injured and semi-conscious. He was initially transported to Chintaki Government Hospital before being transferred to Bidar BRIMS Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to the police complaint filed by Vishnu's mother, Lakshmi, her son had maintained a relationship for approximately one year with Pooja, a married woman with children.
Pooja had reportedly left her husband to cohabitate with Vishnu, a relationship her family was aware of. However, three months prior, she returned to her parental residence in Naganapalli.
Lakshmi stated that on Tuesday, her son traveled to Naganapalli accompanied by two acquaintances to meet Pooja. While at the Hanuman temple, Pooja's father, Ashok, and brother, Gajanan, allegedly confronted him, accusing him of the relationship with Pooja, before dragging him outside the temple and assaulting him with sticks.
The assault was recorded and has spread widely across social media platforms. The footage shows Vishnu bound and on the ground while Ashok and Gajanan beat him with sticks.
The victim can be heard pleading for assistance.
Based on Lakshmi's complaint, Chintaki Police initially registered case number 79/2025 under Sections 109, 118(1), 352, and 127(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following Vishnu's death, murder charges were added to the FIR, and both Ashok and Gajanan have been arrested and placed in judicial custody.
