Mumbai:
Following three years since the renaming of Aurangabad city in Maharashtra, the Central Railway announced on Saturday that the Aurangabad railway station has been officially redesignated as "Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar railway station." According to the Central Railway's release, the station will now operate under the new code 'CPSN'.
This railway facility continues to function within the jurisdiction of the Nanded Division of South Central Railway.
On October 15, the BJP-led Mahayuti government published a gazette notification formalizing the name change of the Aurangabad railway station.
This action comes approximately three years after the administration led by Eknath Shinde officially renamed Aurangabad city as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The city, originally named after Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, has been renamed to honor Chhatrapati Sambhaji, who was the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the second sovereign of the Maratha state.
The Aurangabad railway station was established in 1900, during the governance of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad.
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar serves as a significant tourism center, encompassed by numerous historical landmarks, including the Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves, both recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
