Jeetendra Kumar Rai of the RJD currently holds the position of MLA from Marhaura constituency.
Patna:
In Bihar's Marhaura assembly constituency located in Saran district, NDA leaders have announced their backing for an Independent candidate due to the alliance not having its own representation on the seat.
The nomination of LJP(RV) candidate Seema Singh was "rejected due to technical reasons" for this constituency.
During a press conference, LJP (RV) Chief Whip Arun Bharti stated, "After our candidate's nomination was rejected, we have identified Ankit Kumar, a farmer's son from the extremely backward classes (EBC), whom we will fully support."
JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar emphasized, "Supporting an EBC candidate against the INDIA bloc carries tremendous symbolic significance, as they only know how to appropriate titles." His comment appeared to reference the alleged use of the title 'Jan Nayak' by RJD leaders - a title traditionally associated with former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, a respected EBC icon.
Kumar further added, "NDA operates according to Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur's principles. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the one who conferred the Bharat Ratna upon Karpoori Thakur ji."
BJP national secretary Rituraj Sinha declared, "We have committed our support to an EBC candidate with no political background in Marhaura, where candidates from a single family have been winning elections for five consecutive terms." He added, "While the NDA will form Bihar's government this time, Marhaura will break free from dynastic politics."
His comments referred to the Rai family, whose members have held the MLA position in this Saran district constituency for an extended period. The current seat holder is Jeetendra Kumar Rai from the RJD.
Rituraj further observed that as elections approach, people are gaining "clarity" and embracing the "vision of development under Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar's leadership."
