Delhi Airport's Renovated T2 Inaugurated, To Be Operational From Tomorrow

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu has officially inaugurated the renovated Terminal 2 (T2) at Delhi airport, with operations set to commence on Sunday.

The Terminal 2 facility, originally constructed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) approximately 40 years ago, underwent extensive renovation after closing in April this year. The upgraded terminal now boasts an annual capacity to accommodate 15 million passengers.

During the inaugural ceremony, Minister Naidu expressed his vision that India has the potential to develop one of the world's largest civil aviation ecosystems. He emphasized the importance of enhancing transfer efficiency throughout the airport to establish it as a genuine international hub.

Naidu highlighted that with efficient space utilization, Delhi airport could potentially achieve an annual passenger handling capacity of approximately 130 million. The minister also noted the airport's commitment to sustainability initiatives, particularly regarding the implementation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which stands as India's largest airport, comprises three terminals—T1, T2, and T3—along with four operational runways. The facility currently manages over 1,300 daily flight movements.

According to DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, the airport currently maintains an annual passenger handling capacity exceeding 100 million. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) is responsible for IGIA's operations.

Previously, on March 20, DIAL announced that the expanded Terminal 1 can accommodate 40 million passengers annually, while Terminal 3 has the capacity to handle 45 million passengers per year.
