The devastating bus fire in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh has left an atmosphere heavy with grief and despair as families mourn their loved ones lost in the tragedy.
Among the victims was 23-year-old Anusha, an Accenture employee who had been working in Bengaluru since August last year after successful campus placement.
"I wish my daughter never got that job in Bengaluru," her father lamented, his voice breaking with sorrow. The parents, overwhelmed with grief, recalled their final moments with Anusha at the bus stand.
Her mother shared her regret: "I had told my daughter to extend her stay." Anusha had visited home for Diwali celebrations and was returning to Bengaluru when the accident occurred.
Another devastated family mourns Meghnath, who had begun his career in Bengaluru just five months ago. His mother arrived at the accident site in profound shock, refusing to accept the terrible reality. "My son cannot go away like this," she cried before collapsing. "How will I live without my son?"
Survivor Guna Sai, recovering in hospital, described the horrifying experience. "It was dark and smokey. I don't know how many of us managed to survive," he told NDTV from his hospital bed.
His account suggests serious safety lapses: "I jumped from the window to escape the fire. I saw no hammer to break the glass."
Guna Sai further revealed, "The driver did not help. We tried to break the glass from inside but finally someone probably broke it from the outside, helping us to escape."
He expressed a sentiment shared by many: "Safety is spoken about only after the accident. Everyone has a short memory regarding safety."
Telangana Minister Jupally Krishna Rao placed responsibility directly on those involved. "The driver and the travel agency are to blame," he stated firmly, calling for stringent action. "They should be made to pay for it."
Kurnool SP Vikrant has initiated a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause and progression of the fire. While official findings are pending, for the families of Anusha, Meghnath, and other victims, no explanation can restore the lives and futures lost in this tragedy.
