Advertising Legend Piyush Pandey, Creator of "Ab Ki Baar, Modi Sarkar" Slogan, Dies at 70

Renowned advertising pioneer Piyush Pandey, the creative mind behind the iconic "Ab Ki Baar, Modi Sarkar" slogan and numerous famous Indian ad campaigns, has passed away at 70. The Ogilvy executive and Padma Shri recipient leaves behind a four-decade legacy that transformed Indian advertising.

Piyush Pandey, the advertising legend who created the famous slogan "Ab Ki Baar, Modi Sarkar," passed away on Friday at the age of 70.

The creative genius had been battling an infection before his death, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the advertising world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief on social media platform X, writing: "Shri Piyush Pandey Ji was admired for his creativity. He made a monumental contribution to the world of advertising and communications. I will fondly cherish our interactions over the years. Saddened by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

In a 2014 interview, Pandey had discussed the development of the memorable BJP campaign featuring the tagline that became synonymous with Modi's electoral success.

As the Chief Creative Officer Worldwide and Executive Chairman India of Ogilvy, Pandey's career in advertising spanned nearly four decades after joining the agency in 1982.

His first professional work was for Sunlight Detergent, which began a career that would produce iconic advertisements for major brands including Fevicol, Cadbury, Ponds, Vodafone, and Asian Paints.

Beyond advertising, Pandey ventured into acting with his debut in the 2013 film "Madras Cafe" starring John Abraham. He also appeared in ICICI Bank's Magic Pencil Project marketing videos.

His creative talents extended to music as well, having penned lyrics for "Mile Sur Mera Tumhara," the celebrated Indian song promoting national integration and unity in diversity. Additionally, he co-wrote the screenplay for "Bhopal Express."

The Indian government recognized his contributions by awarding him the prestigious Padma Shri in 2016.
