Police reported that following the incident, the parents desperately tried to locate their infant child.
A tragic incident unfolded in Uttarakhand's Pauri district where a laborer, under the influence of alcohol, allegedly killed his three-month-old son by throwing him into a gorge before taking his own life by jumping into the same ravine, according to police statements released on Thursday.
The fatal event occurred on Tuesday after a heated altercation between the deceased, identified as 30-year-old Lalit, a Nepalese national residing in Daboli village in the Lansdowne area, and his wife.
Officials stated that Lalit struggled with alcohol addiction, and on Tuesday evening, he engaged in an argument with his wife Kamala. Following the dispute, she threatened to leave for her village with their infant child.
In a moment of rage, Lalit reportedly snatched the baby from his wife's arms and threw the child into a nearby gorge alongside the road, police officials explained.
After the horrifying act, the distraught couple frantically searched for their baby without success. In his desperation and apparent remorse, Lalit also jumped into the gorge, authorities said. Although local villagers managed to rescue him and transport him to the primary health center, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
