Delhi Engineer Disabled In Road Accident Awarded Rs 70 Lakh Compensation

New Delhi:

A motor accident claims tribunal has granted over Rs 70.60 lakh compensation to a 30-year-old software engineer who sustained serious injuries in a 2015 road accident.

Presiding officer Arul Varma examined the claim petition filed by Kunal Singh, who suffered severe injuries when a pickup vehicle collided with his motorcycle as he was returning home from his Gurugram office on April 4, 2015.

In the October 16 order, the tribunal determined that the accident was caused by the rash and negligent driving of the vehicle's operator.

The tribunal stated, "No financial compensation can truly offset the victim's suffering, but it is hoped that this award may help alleviate some of the hardship he has experienced."

"A sincere effort must be made to provide just and reasonable compensation for his ordeal."

Acknowledging Singh's grievous injuries and 45 percent permanent disability below the knee, the tribunal recognized that these injuries had significantly impacted the victim's future prospects.

Consequently, the tribunal awarded compensation exceeding Rs 70.60 lakh under various categories.

The tribunal ruled that the driver, owner, and Cholamandalam General Insurance were jointly and severally liable for the compensation amount, with the responsibility of depositing the funds falling on the insurer.
