Authorities from the Karnataka Health Department in collaboration with local police have successfully dismantled an illegal operation involved in female sex determination and foeticide in Hanuganahalli, near Bannur in Mysuru district.

Following specific intelligence reports, a team led by Health Department Deputy Director Vivek, along with Mandya District Health Officer (DHO) Mohan and Mysuru DHO Dr PC Kumaraswamy, conducted a raid on an upscale residence where these unlawful activities were reportedly taking place.

Officials reported that the criminal network targeted vulnerable women from rural areas, charging between 25,000 and 30,000 rupees for unauthorized ultrasound scans to determine the gender of unborn babies. When female foetuses were identified, illegal abortions were subsequently performed. During the raid, authorities confiscated multiple scanning machines, medical equipment, and pharmaceutical supplies used in these procedures.

Two expectant mothers were reportedly present for scanning during the operation. Law enforcement arrested a nurse affiliated with SK Hospital in Bannur, and legal cases have been filed against five individuals connected to this illegal enterprise.

In a media statement, DHO Dr Kumaraswamy explained, "This enforcement action was conducted to address the serious issue of female foeticide. The Health Department, working jointly with teams from Mandya and Mysuru, is committed to eradicating such harmful social practices. Police investigation is ongoing, and comprehensive details will be disclosed after the inquiry concludes."
